Biological Anthropology—Archaeology—Forensic Anthropology

ANTHROPOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Anthropological sciences at Radford University

Part of the School of Environmental and physical science, college of science and technology

The RU Anthropological Sciences Program emphasizes hands-on training and education in the comparative study of human bio-cultural diversity and evolution. Because the field is highly inter-disciplinary in nature, we offer a broad range of coursework emphasizing the application of the scientific method in anthropology, especially in the areas of biological, archaeological, and forensic anthropology. Students are also encouraged to take courses in allied disciplines depending upon their academic and career interests, such as Geography, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, History, Physics, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. We maintain a close relationship with the RU Forensic Science Institute and its affiliated programs.

The faculty of Anthropological Sciences place a high priority on providing students with direct, hands-on experience in the field and lab, including involvement in on-going faculty research projects. These include archaeological investigations in historic and prehistoric Virginia, and forensic investigations throughout the region. Internationally, the faculty also have active archaeological, bioarchaeological, and forensic investigations in Bolivia and the Solomon Islands.
